Wyoming

Wyoming is a beautiful state.  I stopped in Cheyenne this trip and took a tour of the city in a horse drawn wagon that was free.

The tour was very good.  Cheyenne was a town full of cattle barons who had money to spend and it was the first city lighted by electric street lamps.  It is also the place where yellow pages were first printed for phone books.  There was an early phone system in place again because of the cattle barons.

This is not a Subway but the United Methodist Church.  It is the oldest congregation in Cheyenne.
Cheyenne had its bars and brothels serving the railroad crews that came through town.  The crews had to leave their lanterns outside the brothels in case their crew chief needed them.  It was an easy way for others to tell if the rooms were full and they should go next door!

Wyoming is a long state to cross, 450 miles or so.  The scenery is beautiful.  High plains and sagebrush and empty.  It is hard to capture in pictures because I often couldn't stop where the scenery was the best.  I stopped at Fort Bridger built by Jim Bridger to service the westward population.  Ultimately it was reported to Brigham Young that Jim Bridger was selling liquor to the indians which was against Federal Law.  Young brought troops to the fort but Bridger escaped.  The Mormons took over the fort for about 10 years after which it was occupied by the U.S. Army.

This is a replica of the original fort built on the same location of the original.
