Bryce Canyon National Park

I decided to stay in the really nice campground that I had found outside of Cedar City and drive to Bryce Canyon 85 miles away.  It turned out to be a good day despite the long drive over scenic roads which means narrow, steep and hairpin turns.
On the way I took this picture of Zion National Park in the distance (left corner)

Before you reach Bryce you go through Red Canyon, well named as you can see.

So far Bryce is my favorite canyon.  Interesting that when you go to Zion you are on the canyon floor and in Bryce you are on the rim.  Pictures follow.

Hoodoos
Bryce is a unique place on the earth.  The rocks have eroded in a way not found anywhere else.  The figures you seem to see are called Hoodoos.  They look like figures of people.  Paiute legend says that the trickster coyote turned the unruly Paiutes into Hoodoos.

Love these back lit windows!

Coming home from Bryce I was able to take this picture of the sheep herder working.

It is fun to meet fellow travelers but this one was the most unique.  Melanie is on a 3 month bike trip.  She was camped next to me one night and we had breakfast together.  She not only travels by bike but goes mountain biking every chance she gets.  She was headed to Arizona.
